The unique looking Swiss Cheese Plant forms unique holes in its leaves as it matures, hence the name! This plant looks great in a hanging basket or on a shelf where it’s trailing vines can be shown off. The Adansonii comes from a large family, there are nearly 50 varieties of Monstera, all native to Southern & Central America.
Light conditions: enjoys bright but indirect light. Can tolerate a couple of hours of direct morning sunlight but not all day.
Neediness: an easy to care for houseplant. If not hanging it will also do well with a moss pole or trellis enabling the vines to climb. As it is a vining plant pruning will help keep growth from becoming out of control. Maintaining a good level of humidity is very important to help this plant thrive.
Watering: water only when the top layer of soil has begun to dry out. Keep soil moist during the warmer months by watering weekly along with regular misting or whenever the soil feels dry and less throughout winter. Get it wrong and this plant will let you know as it’s leaves will turn yellow/brown. Do not let the soil dry out completely.
Ideal location: bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, studies and bedrooms
Rate of growth: slow to moderate but in the right conditions and with the right support these plants can reach heights of 10-20m!
Temperature: can be kept at normal room temperature, enjoys warm conditions of 18c plus. Do not let the temperature drop below 12c and avoid draughts.
Pets: this plant is toxic to cats and dogs. See our range of pet friendly plants if your pet is prone to nibbling.
