This is a distinctive looking cactus with trailing stems that give rise to it’s common name of Rat tail Cactus. It is epiphytic meaning in the wild it would not need soil to grow, in fact in its native environment in Southern Mexico and Central America it can be seen growing over rocks and hanging from trees. The trailing stems look great displayed hanging or on a shelf.
Light conditions: position in bright light, this plant will enjoy full sun.
Neediness: Easy to care for but remember that your cactus needs dusting to unblock its pores, helping it to breathe. Try a make-up brush or an artist’s brush to remove cobwebs and dust
Watering: contrary to what new cactus keepers think, cactus require regular watering, at least during the summer and active growing seasons. Only water again when the soil has dried out. Over the cooler months they may need only light watering every 3 to 4 weeks.
Ideal location: bedrooms, living rooms and studies
Rate of growth: slow growing
Temperature: keep at a normal room temperature
Pets: this plant is toxic to cats and dogs. See our range of pet friendly plants if your pet is prone to nibbling.
