This plant shouts 'summer holiday'! Native to the Canary Islands it has a distinctive tropical look to it. In the wild, it can reach around 40 metres in height, but don't worry, it won't take over your home as its growth is fairly slow.
This plant is a real multi-tasker - not only is it great for purifying the air, in the Canary Islands its leaves are used to make baskets and hats, while its sap is used to make syrup.
The Phoenix Canariensis is very easy to care for and will tolerate some neglect. It's normal for its lower leaves to die as it grows - don't panic as new leaves will emerge.

Jo's Top Tip
While this plant is very low-maintenace and not too fussy about where it lives within your home, we'd recommend giving it space so it can really show off its fan-like leaves that like to spread out.
