Honeysuckle - Lonicera japonica 'Red World'
Honeysuckle is one of the great garden classics - and 'Red World' gives it a more vivid, contemporary edge. Instead of the classic cream and yellow, the flowers come through in deep red and coral tones, set against rich, semi-evergreen foliage. The scent is everything you'd expect from a honeysuckle - warm, sweet, and particularly strong in the evening.
A vigorous climber that twines its way up fences, trellises, arches, and pergolas with enthusiasm, 'Red World' is fully hardy across the UK and genuinely unfussy once established. The red colouring tends to be most intense when the plant gets good sun.
Grow in sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. It flowers best when the top of the plant is in sun and the roots are shaded and cool - other plants at the base, or a layer of mulch, helps with this. Prune after flowering to keep it tidy and encourage fresh growth for the following year. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser.
