Just like a peacock, this beautiful Calathea really stands out from the crowd with its distinctive, coloured leaves in shades of red and purple, and decorative markings. Like other members of the Prayer Plant family, it also folds its leaves up when darkness falls of an evening.
Too much sun will be the downfall of the peacock plant causing its stunning colours to fade. It is also occasionally called Cathedral Windows.
Native to Brazil, humidity is best for this particular plant and it takes kindly to frequent mistings, too. However, as it is a little sensitive to the fluoride in tap water which can cause damage to its delicate leaves, make the effort to collect rain water for it when watering.
