This Mother's Day, celebrate the ones who raised you with these five lockdown-friendly activities.
Whilst the latest announcement from Boris Johnson brings good news to England, confirming there is a light at the end of the tunnel amid the Covid pandemic, Mother’s Day (14th March) will still be spent largely in lockdown. But, there are still so many ways to mark the occasion and make mum feel special. So join Beards & Daisies in celebrating the ones who raised you with our guide to spending Mother’s Day.
Send her an IOU date
We’re all missing eating out at restaurants so much at the moment, but all being well, we won’t have too much longer to wait until we can bask in this simple joy once again. From May 17th, we should be provisionally allowed to eat out again – so set a date and post mum an IOU to her one of her favourite eateries. We guarantee she will love having something to look forward to and will make the meal all the more sweeter when you’re picking up the bill.
Arrange an afternoon tea box delivery
What mum doesn’t love a good cuppa? Go one better this year, by sending her an afternoon tea delivery box that will have not only a huge selection of teas, but also scones, cakes and sandwiches, all to be enjoyed from the comfort and safety of her own home. This is a great way to let her know you’re thinking of her, no matter how far away you may be. We recommend Piglets Pantry who do boxes serving one to four people and cater to vegetarian and vegan diets, too.
Get outside
This is mainly dependent on you being an only child or taking turns among your siblings throughout the day to visit mum, but from 8th March, recreation in outdoor public spaces is permitted via a one-on-one basis. This means you could meet your mother figure somewhere such as a park and treat her to her favourite takeaway coffee and cake, or if the weather allows, even have a picnic. Essentially, you don’t need to be exercising to meet up outside – and rightly so – mum deserves to rest today!
Set up a plant subscription gift for her
Why stop at one gift? Mums deserve the world after all! A plant subscription makes a great gift as each month we will hand-pick and deliver a plant to her door. Simply select how long you’d like mum to receive them for – 3, 6 or 12 months – and her green family will rapidly expand. Subscribers will also receive a perfectly fitting ceramic pot to home their new plant within.
Call her
It may seem like we’ve spent the past year of our lives taking Zoom calls, but if your mum struggles with basic technology (I know mine does!), you can’t beat a good old fashioned natter over the phone. We’re not talking WhatsApp calls either. Go direct and ring her landline. Set aside at least half hour of your day and catch up about everything and anything. Never underestimate how much of a pick-me-up a conversation with a loved one can be.
