International Women's Day 2021: The team share the best piece of advice we ever got from mum

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the ones who raised us by sharing some of our mother's gems of wisdom.

There are a lot of influential women who have shaped us during our time growing up - from Michelle Obama to Beyoncé to Greta Thunberg to name a few. But, arguably, the most influential women we'll ever know are the ones who raised us - our mums. Mothers guide us through life – helping us navigate the ups and downs of growing up, and are always there on the other end of the phone, no matter how old we are. We owe them a lot! Thanks to my mum, I know the entire discography of Rod Stewart and I’m not even ashamed to admit it (any more!). But besides from a questionable taste in music, our mother figures really have passed on some of the best pieces of advice we’ve ever been given. Some of the Beards & Daisies team share the most important lessons they’ve learned from their mums.

Sam – The Plant Folk

“Mum has taught me to always cherish every moment and everyone in your life — these moments are unique and precious, and memories last a lifetime. She would say she’d always be with me, to be brave, have courage and to love life.”

Phillipa – Marketing Manager

“My mum always taught me it’s ok to go against the flow — whatever decisions I’ve made in life, even if they were slightly controversial, she’s supported me 100 percent. I try to offer that same support to the women in my life.”

Jo – Founder

“My mum has always made me feel that anything is possible with a bit of hard work and determination. Whether it was moving to London at 18 or starting this business, she’s always been my biggest cheerleader — thanks, mum.”

Georgia-May – Marketing Coordinator

“It’s not a piece of advice my mum gave me, but rather her attitude. In 2017, she was diagnosed with cancer and I will forever be inspired by how she has fought such a terrible disease with courage, grace and positivity.”

Happy International Women's Day from the Beards and Daisies Team!
