Japanese Maple 'Cascade Gold' - Acer palmatum 'Cascade Gold'
Where most Japanese maples go deep red or burgundy, 'Cascade Gold' goes the other way - fresh lime green and gold tones through spring and summer, turning brilliant shades of orange and amber as autumn arrives. The cascading habit means it builds into a dome of colour that looks good from above or at eye level, and works particularly well on a raised bed or terrace where the branches can fall freely.
Native to Japan and parts of East Asia, Japanese maples have been grown as ornamental plants for hundreds of years. 'Cascade Gold' is a dissectum type with finely cut foliage on naturally cascading branches. Slow to reach full size, but even young plants make a real statement in a container or border.
Grow in a sheltered position away from cold winds and late frosts - the new spring foliage is vulnerable to frost scorch. Partial shade or dappled sun gives the best colour. Use ericaceous or humus-rich, well-drained compost. Water regularly throughout summer - never let the rootball dry out - and rainwater is preferable to tap water. Prune when fully dormant if needed.
Decorative pot not included.
