A little about this plant

Agapanthus - Agapanthus 'Su Casa'
In midsummer, when most border plants are starting to flag, the agapanthus is just getting going. Tall, bare stems rise above clumps of strappy leaves and open into perfect spherical heads of trumpet-shaped flowers in deep, rich purple. It's a bold, reliable performance that keeps going for weeks.

Native to South Africa, agapanthus is more suited to UK gardens than most people expect. 'Su Casa' is a deciduous variety - it loses its leaves in winter - which makes it one of the hardier types and means it can be left in the ground year-round in most parts of the UK with a mulch over the crown in autumn.

This plant is also known as the African Lily.

Grow in full sun in well-drained soil or compost - at least six hours of sun a day is needed for a good flowering display. Feed fortnightly through the growing season with a high-potassium feed. A useful thing to know: agapanthus actually flowers better when its roots are slightly restricted, so don't be in a rush to repot or divide it. Deadhead spent stems and mulch around the base in autumn.

This bundle includes 2 plants.

outdoor plant FAQs

How long should I wait until repotting my outdoor plant?

Your outdoor plant will be happiest planted into the garden as soon as possible after it arrives, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for planting, but with a little extra watering, many outdoor plants can also be planted successfully during summer.

How often should I water it?

Water well after planting, then continue watering regularly for the first few weeks while the roots establish.

Will the plant surive all year ground outside?

Most outdoor plants are chosen to grow outside and can happily stay outdoors all year round. However, this does depend on the specific plant variety and the conditions in your garden.
