Anthurium - Anthurium andraeanum 'Lilli'
The Anthurium 'Lilli' is a smaller, more compact flowering Anthurium with soft pink-tinged spathes - a slightly softer look than the classic red or white varieties, and one that works well in a smaller space. Like all Anthuriums, it blooms over a long period rather than in a single flush, which makes it a genuinely rewarding plant to live with. This one arrives in a glass vessel, growing hydroponically with its roots suspended in water rather than soil.
In the wild, Anthuriums spend their lives as epiphytes - growing on trees in the Colombian and Ecuadorian rainforest, roots hanging in the humid air, drinking directly from rainfall as it filters down through the canopy above. The glass vessel is just a more elegant version of that: roots in water, the plant living the way it always has, with no soil needed.
Keep the water topped up and change it every couple of weeks. In spring and summer, add a diluted liquid feed to the water, leave it for 24 hours, then refresh. Keep the very tops of the root ball just above the waterline. That is the full routine.

Bright, indirect light indoors suits them well. A warm, humid room is ideal - they will manage fine in most homes as long as the temperature stays above 15°C and they are not near a cold draught.
Anthurium sap contains calcium oxalate crystals that cause irritation and discomfort if chewed or ingested. Not suitable for households with curious pets or young children who may nibble.
