Apple Tree - Malus domestica
A fruit tree in a pot is one of the more satisfying things a small garden can have. Blossom in spring, fruit in autumn, and the pleasure of picking something you've actually grown yourself. Even in a modest space, a well-cared-for apple tree will reward you with a proper crop - and they tend to look good doing it.
Apple trees are fully hardy across the UK and have been cultivated here for centuries. The variety supplied will determine flavour, cropping time, and size, but as a rule all apples need sun, reasonable drainage, and a little feeding and pruning each year to stay productive and healthy.
Grow in full sun in well-drained, fertile soil or a large container of good quality compost. Feed in spring with a fertiliser suited to fruit trees. Prune in winter when the tree is dormant - removing dead wood and opening up the centre of the tree improves both air circulation and cropping. Water consistently through the growing season, particularly in dry spells.
As it’s early in the growing season, your plant may arrive a little less developed than pictured - but with the right care, it’ll soon flourish into its full, leafy self.
Decorative pot not included.
Plant height is measured from the base of the nursery pot to the tip of the tallest leaf when held upright.
