Lavender - Lavandula stoechas 'Anouk'
If you've ever walked past a lavender in full bloom and stopped without meaning to, you'll understand why this plant keeps appearing in gardens. 'Anouk' is a Spanish lavender with distinctive butterfly-like bracts sitting on top of each flower spike in a deep, rich purple - a slightly more ornamental look than the classic English types, and a warm, sweet scent to match.
Native to the Mediterranean, lavender is one of the most reliable plants for a sunny spot. Drought-tolerant, loved by bees and pollinators, and produces a reliable display from late spring through summer. Spanish lavender varieties like 'Anouk' tend to flower earlier and with more visual flair than their English cousins.
Grow in full sun in well-drained soil - lavender will struggle and become woody in wet or heavy ground. Trim back lightly after flowering to keep the plant compact and prevent it from becoming leggy. Don't cut back into old wood. Feed sparingly - too rich a soil produces soft, floppy growth.

Your outdoor plant will be happiest planted into the garden as soon as possible after it arrives, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for planting, but with a little extra watering, many outdoor plants can also be planted successfully during summer.
Water well after planting, then continue watering regularly for the first few weeks while the roots establish.
Most outdoor plants are chosen to grow outside and can happily stay outdoors all year round. However, this does depend on the specific plant variety and the conditions in your garden.
