£7.20Golden Rat Tail Cactus - Hildewintera aureispina
The name is not particularly glamorous, but the plant absolutely is. Long, tubular stems trail and tumble downwards, densely covered in fine golden spines that give the whole thing a warm, almost fluffy look that's completely unlike your average prickly cactus. It's best displayed somewhere its stems can hang freely, where it'll really come into its own.
Native to Bolivia and Argentina, Hildewintera aureispina can also produce deep orange-red flowers on more mature plants in spring and summer, a vivid contrast against all that gold. Worth the wait.
This plant is also known as Cleistocactus winteri and the Golden Monkey Tail Cactus.
Position in a bright spot with several hours of direct sunlight. Water every 2-3 weeks in summer and reduce significantly in winter.
