A little about this plant

Purple Salvia - Salvia
There are few things better for a sunny border than a salvia that just keeps going. From early summer right through to autumn, the upright spikes of purple-blue flowers come in wave after wave, each one bringing bees and butterflies with it. Cut it back lightly after a flush of flowers and it rewards you with another round - and another.

Salvias are native to a wide band running from the Mediterranean through to the Americas, and this sun-loving, drought-tolerant character shows in how little fuss they make once settled in. They're ideal for pots, front-of-border planting, and anywhere that gets a good amount of sun.

Grow in full sun in well-drained soil or compost. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce as the plant settles - salvias become notably drought-tolerant once their roots are down. Feed through spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. In colder areas, leave the old stems in place over winter for protection and cut back to healthy new growth in spring.

This bundle includes 2 plants.

outdoor plant FAQs

How long should I wait until repotting my outdoor plant?

Your outdoor plant will be happiest planted into the garden as soon as possible after it arrives, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for planting, but with a little extra watering, many outdoor plants can also be planted successfully during summer.

How often should I water it?

Water well after planting, then continue watering regularly for the first few weeks while the roots establish.

Will the plant surive all year ground outside?

Most outdoor plants are chosen to grow outside and can happily stay outdoors all year round. However, this does depend on the specific plant variety and the conditions in your garden.
