Ranunculus - Ranunculus asiaticus
Layer upon layer of thin, papery petals packed into a rounded flower, in shades that run through white, pink, orange and red. It is one of the best cut flowers you can grow at home, lasting well over a week in a vase. The claw-shaped corms look unpromising, but they produce several flowers each.
Soak the claws for a few hours before planting, claws facing down. Ten to fifteen fill a 30cm pot, or space them 10–15cm apart in a sunny, well-drained bed or cutting patch.
Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten.
