Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' - Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'
The Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' is an ornamental elder that bears very little resemblance to its hedgerow relative. Finely cut, almost black-purple leaves give the garden a dark, considered quality, and in early summer flat-headed pale pink flowers appear above them - the contrast is quietly spectacular. Cut the Black Lace hard in spring for the strongest leaf colour and most vigorous new growth. Fully hardy, fast-growing, tolerant of most soils, and genuinely good as a wildlife shrub - the berries are popular with birds if you leave some stems unpruned.
Plant may arrive in bud.

Your outdoor plant will be happiest planted into the garden as soon as possible after it arrives, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for planting, but with a little extra watering, many outdoor plants can also be planted successfully during summer.
Water well after planting, then continue watering regularly for the first few weeks while the roots establish.
Most outdoor plants are chosen to grow outside and can happily stay outdoors all year round. However, this does depend on the specific plant variety and the conditions in your garden.
