The Acer Garden - Acer palmatum 'Cascade Gold', Acer palmatum 'Garnet', Acer palmatum 'Ryusen'
Few plants in the garden do what a Japanese acer does. The delicate, deeply cut leaves. The extraordinary colour. The way they change through the seasons so gradually, and so beautifully, that you find yourself just standing and looking at them. This collection brings together three of the finest varieties you can grow - each one a completely different colour and form, each one worth having in its own right.
'Cascade Gold' earns its name from the moment it breaks into leaf in spring - fresh golden yellow that weeps as it grows before turning a warm burnt orange come autumn. 'Garnet' is the brooding one of the three: deeply dissected burgundy leaves that hold their rich colour from spring right through to late autumn. And 'Ryusen' is simply one of the most beautiful acers in existence - a sweeping, cascading green that moves in the breeze in a way that catches you off guard.
Plant them together or use them individually as focal points. Either way, they're the kind of plants people stop to look at.
All three are deciduous - bare in winter, spectacular in autumn. Best in a sheltered spot with dappled shade. Avoid waterlogged soil.
