The Japanese Garden - Fargesia robusta 'Campbell', Acer palmatum 'Cascade Gold', Fatsia japonica
A Japanese-inspired garden has a particular kind of calm to it - and it doesn't happen by accident. It comes from putting texture, movement and structure together in exactly the right way. Tall bamboo that whispers in the breeze. A maple that moves through gold and amber as the seasons turn. Bold, evergreen foliage that holds the whole thing together all year round.
The bamboo is the backbone of this combination - elegant, upright and completely non-invasive, so none of that anxious watching of borders for rogue shoots. Acer 'Cascade Gold' is the jewel: delicate golden leaves that catch the light in spring and summer before putting on a final show of amber and orange in autumn. And the Fatsia japonica is the anchor - those enormous, deeply lobed leaves providing evergreen presence whatever the season throws at it.
The bamboo is a clump-forming variety and will not spread. The acer is deciduous - bare in winter, beautiful in autumn. All three are fully hardy.
