Dicksonia Antarctica (Tree Fern) - Dicksonia antarctica
The Dicksonia Antarctica tree has a thick, fibrous trunk topped with a crown of broad fronds, and it brings real presence to a shaded courtyard or sheltered garden corner in a way that very few plants can match. The tree fern is slow growing and very long-lived - genuinely a plant for the long term. In winter, protect the crown with fleece in colder spots, and keep the trunk itself moist during dry spells, as it absorbs water through the fibres as well as the roots.

Your outdoor plant will be happiest planted into the garden as soon as possible after it arrives, provided the ground isn't frozen or waterlogged.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for planting, but with a little extra watering, many outdoor plants can also be planted successfully during summer.
Water well after planting, then continue watering regularly for the first few weeks while the roots establish.
Most outdoor plants are chosen to grow outside and can happily stay outdoors all year round. However, this does depend on the specific plant variety and the conditions in your garden.
