Christmas Cactus - Schlumbergera
Festive, floral and full of colour - who can resist the charming Christmas Cactus? With bright, trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of white, these easy care plants make great gifts, or work well as a centrepiece on your table when entertaining this party season. Paired with a cool grey ceramic pot, to help add a glimmer of festive spirit to your home.
This plant is said to symbolise answered prayers, as legend has it a little boy prayed to the heavens for a sign of Christmas. One day he awoke to find himself surrounded by the flowers on the tips of these cacti.
Don't treat this festive plant in the same way you would with a normal cactus. It is an epiphyte and is native to the tropical rainforests of southern Brazil, where they grow on tree branches. They will need humidity and warm temperatures to thrive. You'll need to water every 2-3 weeks, but only when the top two inches of soil feels dry to touch.
