New In: Outdoor Plants at Beards & Daisies

New In: Outdoor Plants at Beards & Daisies

We're going outside. And we want you to come too.

It's something people have been asking us about for a long time. "Do you do outdoor plants?" "What about my garden?" "I want the inside of my house to look as good as the outside."

We heard you.

This spring, Beards & Daisies has launched its outdoor plant collection - and honestly, we're a little bit in love with it.

Here's why it happened, what's in it, and how to make the most of it.

Why we've launched an outdoor collection

We've always believed that plants should work for your life - your space, your skill level, your style. For years we focused on houseplants, and we got pretty good at it.

But gardens, balconies, patios and doorsteps deserve the same level of care. Finding quality outdoor plants online that actually arrive in good condition, with proper guidance? It's harder than it should be.

So we decided to fix that.

Our outdoor collection has been selected with the same thinking behind everything we do: choosing plants that look good and come with the know-how to help you keep them that way.

Our top picks

Lemon Tree

Citrus Lemon Tree

Perfect for a mediterranean-style look - and what better than growing your own lemons? It loves a sunny, sheltered spot and a regular water throughout summer. It's hardy enough for the UK, and if you bring it inside over winter, it'll keep going year after year. The fruit is amazing in a gin and tonic, by the way.

Musa Dwarf (Banana Plant)

Musa Dwarf

If you want your outdoor space to feel full of personality, the Musa Dwarf delivers. Yes, it is a real banana plant - and yes, it can technically grow bananas, though don't hold your breath waiting for a bunch to appear in your garden! It loves sun and hates the cold, so a sheltered spot in a large pot is its happy place. Bring it inside over winter, and it works just as well as a houseplant!

Acer Garnet

Acer garnet

The Acer Garnet is the outdoor plant equivalent of a great investment. Slow to grow, yes - but it asks very little and gives a lot back. The foliage shifts from deep red through summer to crimson and orange come autumn, and the branches naturally fall in a way that looks like someone spent a lot of time training them. But they didn’t, that's just what it does!

Give it a sheltered spot and regular water through summer - and it'll just keep getting better every year.

Styling your outdoor space with pots

The right pot makes a huge difference - and it's worth thinking about it before you find your perfect match.

For larger plants, go generous on pot size. A pot that's too small will restrict growth and dry out fast. A large terracotta or stone-effect pot gives the roots room to breathe and anchors the plant visually.

As a general rule, match the pot weight to the wind exposure. Light pots on exposed balconies will tip. Heavier pots in sheltered spots have more flexibility.

We have a selection of pots for every space.

How to find the right outdoor plant for you

Not sure where to start? Here are a few honest pointers.

For sunny spots: A passion flower, apple tree, or olive tree is a solid choice. They like warmth and won't thank you for shade.

For sheltered patios or courtyards: The bamboo and other lush-leaved plants thrive here. Protection from strong winds helps them look their best.

For exposed balconies: Choose compact, wind-tolerant plants, such as the photinia, purple salvia and verbena. Always check the eventual size before you buy.
